Aishwarya Rai's wax model displayed at New York museum

Bollywood superstar and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai has become the first Indian celebrity to have her wax model displayed in New York.

The Madame Tussauds Museum of New York has borrowed Ash’s wax model from its parent museum in London. In London, Ash's wax model was unveiled in 2004. It was unveiled when her first international film 'Bride and Prejudice' was released.

The display of Aishwarya's wax model at New York was the part of India's 60th Independence Day celebrations in New York. The model will be residing there for six weeks and after that it will be sent back to London.

When the statue was unveiled, her fans in New York began flocking the museum to admire the waxwork. A group of dancers, dressed in 'lahengas' gave performance on her popular songs during the 15 minute unveiling ceremony.

Besides Ash, the other Indian film personalities present at Madame Tussauds Museum in London are Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Tamil superstar Rajnikant. While other Indians present at the museum are Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

The Madame Tussauds Museum was set up in London in 1835. Now it has branches in other countries like Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Shanghai and New York. It is also set up in Washington DC in October 2007.
